The downside of falling asleep at 4pm is waking up at 5am the following day. We started hunting around for places to grab breakfast, but most cafes in the area didn’t open until 9am (!). This mirrors our experience in Japan where breakfast restaurants are much less of a thing.
Rather than eating at another cafe for breakfast, we walked a few blocks away to a Korean grocery store. This is one of our favorite things to do when we travel to a new country. Sadly our hotel didn’t have a microwave, but at least it had a kettle. We picked up some “just add hot water” meals, some snacks, some maekgoli, bowls and utensils.
The strawberry waffle from a convenience store was one of the tastiest things I’ve ever had from there. The fried chicken snacks were hilarious. They came in a box that matched what friend chicken came in and tasted slightly like friend chicken skin.
After breakfast we headed out to our tour for the day – an exploration of the Bucheon Azelea Festival and Gwangmyeong Cave.
Byeolcheonji Ox Bone Soup
Afterwards we headed to Byeolcheonji Ox Bone Soup for some dinner. The soup was very bland, with salt on the side for you to set your own level. Marilyn loved hers (pictured below). Even after adding salt mine was missing something. I didn’t love it.
