Reading
I wasn't a much of a reader when I was a kid. It wasn't until after college when I found audiobooks did I really start listening to and (eventually) reading more books.
In 2021, I started Hardcover.app, a social network for readers and a replacement for Goodreads. It all began here on this page! I loved sharing my books on my blog and Goodreads announced they would shut off that API. Not wanting to give up on the open web, I started Hardcover with a goal of being a forever-open version with easy access to your own data.

One of the best fantasy books I've ever read. The concept in this one is a fantasy world that is slightly different from our own with the inclusion of allomancers, people born with a special ability to manipulate the world (or themselves) in some way. These include things like being able to push/pull steel, refine your senses or incease your strength. "Mistborns" can use all of these abilities. The characters and world drew me in with its mysteries and hints at epic problems rotating around our central players. The magical element for this world was the most memorable I can imagine, and I would highly recommend it. You could go with this one on your own, but books 2 & 3 expand on the world.

Galatea is an incredible short story. The story is based on a Greek tale Metamorphoses. A (male) sculptor creates a (woman) sculpture so beautiful it comes to life and they live happily ever after. She has no agency, nor a name.Millers version is told from the woman’s point of view living with a controlling man. It feels like it could be a Colleen Hoover story, yet keeps its fantastical tone of Millers other works. The afterward mentions hits on the theme on the most direct way:For millennia there have been men who react with horror and disgust to women's independence, men who desire women yet hate them, and who take refuge in fantasies of purity and control. What would it be like to live with such a man as your husband?
