December 27, 2005 – The Cleanout Continues
Last time over in St. Pete I stumbled on a notepad of quotes, all written in my Moms handwriting. They look like there were collected from a few different sources based on the content and of course seeing her quote books. Here are a few of the highlights I thought I’d share.
Shades of opinions may be sincerely entertained by honest and truthful men.
Character is like a tree, and reputation like it’s shadow. The shadow is what we think of it — the real thing is the tree.
I am determined to borrow no trouble.
I have done my duty and stand clear before my conscience.
I don’t think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday.
Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
No man has a good enough memory to make a successful liar.
I have always wanted to deal with everyone I meet candidly and honestly. If I have made any assertion not warranted by facts and it is pointed out to me, I will withdraw is cheerfully.*
I cannot claim that I am free from error in all the opinions that I advance.
It is no pleasure for me to triumph over anyone.
I do not impugn the motives of anyone opposed to me.*
Nothing valuable was ever lost be taking time.
My policy is to have no policy.
Killing the dog does not cure the bite.*
I’m a slow walker but I never walk backwards.
I always assume my audiences are wiser than I am, and I say the most sensible thing I can to them and I never found that they don’t not understand me.
Also, found a report card from first grade. High marks in most things, but only “Learning” in “Jumps a Rope” and “Needs Improvement” in “Cuts on a line” (yep). Haha 🙂
